AFTER  STARTING  ENGINE

1.  Rotating Beacon and Nav Lights  -  ON

2.  Flaps  -  UP

3.  Avionics  -  ON

4.  Marker Beacon Panel  -  ON and TEST

5.  Audio Panel  -  SET as desired

6.  Comm Radios  -  SET and check volume

7.  Nav Radios  ON, SET, CHECK ACCURACY, IDENTIFY (if possible)

8.  Transponder  -  STANDBY,  Squawk Code

9.  DME  -  ON, SET, IDENTIFY (if possible)

10.  ADF  -  ON, SET, IDENTIFY (if possible)

11.  Magnetic Compass  -  CHECK full of fluid

12.  DG  -  SET

13.  Altimeter  -  SET

14.  Clock  -  SET proper time

15.  IFR  Taxi Clearance  -  OBTAIN

 

DURING  TAXI

 

1.  Altitude Indicator  -  CHECK erect and level during turns

2.  Turn Coordinator  -  CHECK indicating turns, tube full of fluid

3.  DG  -  CHECK following in turns

4.  ADF  -  CHECK following in turns

 

BEFORE  TAKEOFF

 

1.  Parking Brake  -  SET

2.  Cabin Doors and Windows  -  CLOSED and LOCKED

3.  Flight Controls  -  FREE and CORRECT

4.  Fuel Selector Value  -  BOTH

5.  Mixture  -  RICH (below 3000 feet)

6.  Elevator Trim and Rudder Trim  -  SET TAKEOFF

7.  Throttle  -  1700  RPM

a.  Carburetor Heat  -  CHECK for RPM drop

b.  Magnetos  -  CHECK (RPM drop should not exceed 125 RPM

     on either magneto of 50 RPM differential between Magnetos.)

c.  Engine instruments and Ammeter  -  CHECK

d.  Suction Gauge  - CHECK

8.  Flight Instruments  - SET attitude indicator, DG and CHECK VSI

9.  Alternate Static Source  -  CHECK (up-down indication on VSI)

10.  IFR Clearance  -  OBTAIN and READ BACK

11.  Radios and Transponder  -  SET and SQUAWK

12.  Strobes, Transponder, and Pitot Heat (if required)  -  ON

13.  Throttle Friction Lock  -  ADJUST

14.  Brakes  -  RELEASE
